Why Paul Pogba was ushered down the tunnel following Man United’s win over West Ham

Why Paul Pogba was ushered down the tunnel following Man United’s win over West Ham

Late drama sees Man United win

An interesting affair at the London Stadium played out on Sunday as West Ham welcomed Manchester United.

The Hammers had previously enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign before facing Man United, but would be without the services of Michail Antonio for the clash due to his red card vs Southampton the weekend prior.

Man United, on the other hand, had not lost in the league this term, but had fallen to a shock 2-1 defeat vs Young Boys last time out.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. were able to bounce back from said loss on Sunday.

A deflected Said Benrahma effort did put West Ham 1-0 up on the day. However, the Red Devils drew level just moments later via Cristiano Ronaldo:

The Portuguese then should have been awarded at least one penalty late on in the game, but neither was given.

Despite this, Man United were still able to grab a late winner thanks to substitute, Jesse Lingard.

Mark Nobel did have a chance to draw the Londoners level from the penalty spot in the dying moments, but saw his effort saved despite only being brought on to take the spot-kick.

Why Pogba was ushered down tunnel by Carrick

After seeing Lingard, who spent the second half of 2020/21 on loan at West Ham, score the winner and then their side miss a penalty at the death, West Ham fans were understandably not too pleased following the full-time whistle.

This led to, as per a video on social media and as reported by the Manchester Evening News, a small section of West Ham fans hurling abuse at Paul Pogba following the game.

The Frenchman appeared to take it quite light-heartedly, and was stood at the front of the tunnel smiling and spreading his arms out.

But, as per the MEN, it would be this incident that led to Michael Carrick ushering Pogba down the tunnel:

Paul Pogba was ushered down the London Stadium tunnel by Michael Carrick on Sunday afternoon amid abuse directed at him by irate West Ham supporters.
