Why Mikel Arteta got angry with Gabriel Martinelli during Arsenal’s loss to Liverpool
An explanation for Mikel Arteta getting angry with Gabriel Martinelli during Arsenal’s loss to Liverpool has been provided.
The Gunners would welcome Liverpool to the Emirates on Thursday evening for the second of two League Cup semi-final matches.
The first leg ended 0-0 but, on Thursday, Arsenal were outclassed and eventually succumbed to a 2-0 defeat thanks to two goals from Diogo Jota:

On the back of a disappointing loss that now means Arsenal will be unable to win any silverware this season, football.london have explained why Mikel Arteta was left angry with Gabriel Martinelli, with it revealed that the Arsenal boss could be seen throwing his arms up in frustration as his young attacker was slow to press a loose throw-in taken by Andy Robertson just before half-time.
Jurgen Klopp praises Martinelli
Though Arteta himself was seemingly not too pleased with the Brazilian on the day, Martinelli did receive praise from another manager.
Completely unprompted, Jurgen Klopp, when asked a question about facing off with Chelsea post-match, labelled Martinelli an ‘outstanding’ player: “Martinelli by the way… everybody should remember that name. Outstanding player.”

And it is easy to see why Klopp was quick to praise Martinelli. The 20-year-old has been one of Arsenal’s key players over the last few months, filling the void left by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid his disciplinary woes and AFCON trip.
