Why Matteo Guendouzi is suspended for Liverpool & not Tottenham

Arsenal 2 – Blackpool 1

Arsenal returned to winning ways in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night against Blackpool.

Last weekend in the Premier League, Arsenal’s winning run came to an end in a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace.

This midweek, the Gunners beat League One side Blackpool 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Stephan Lichtsteiner, with his first goal for Arsenal, broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute.

Emile Smith-Rowe doubled Arsenal’s lead at the start of the second half.

Paudie O’Connor scored a consolation for Blackpool in the 66th.

Arsenal vs Tottenham

Arsenal will now face rivals Tottenham in the next round of the cup.

That match will be staged at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

Matteo Guendouzi suspended vs Liverpool

Both Arsenal and Blackpool finished the cup tie with 10-men.

French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi was dismissed in the 56th minute after he collected a second yellow card.

Paudie O’Connor collected a straight red card for Blackpool in the final stages of the match.

This weekend Arsenal take on Liverpool in the Premier League.

It’s been confirmed that Guendouzi is now suspended for the Liverpool match and not for the upcoming cup tie with Tottenham.

Arsenal’s selection problems vs Liverpool

Unai Emery has several selection concerns before the Liverpool game.

Will Spanish defender Hector Bellerin be fit for the match?

Bellerin left last weekend’s Crystal Palace match at halftime with injury, and the right-back is a doubt for the Liverpool game.

Staying with Arsenal’s backline, left-backs Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac have both been sidelined in recent weeks with hamstring injuries.

Centre-halves Konstantinos Mavropanos and Laurent Koscielny are also on Arsenal’s injury report.

Finally, midfielder Mohamed Elneny is out with a thigh injury.

Don’t expect Arsenal to sign any British players in the foreseeable future.
