Why Marcus Rashford did not start for Man United vs Fulham

Fulham vs Manchester United

Man United travelled to Fulham in Saturday’s early kick-off.

United headed into the game in fine form and were undefeated in 10 games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Prior to the Fulham clash, Man United had won seven of their last eight league games, the remaining game a 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Solskjaer had also guided United to the 5th round of the FA Cup after picking up wins in the 3rd and 4th round vs Arsenal and Reading.

Manchester United started the weekend 5th in the league but could have moved up to 4th with a win over Fulham.

Why Rashford did not start

One of the stand out performers for United under Solskjaer has been Marcus Rashford.

Rashford had started United’s previous eight league games under Solskjaer, scoring an impressive six goals.

However, the young Englishman would only make the bench for United’s clash with Fulham with Romelu Lukaku taking his place.

Solskjaer has given an update on why Rashford only made the bench.

Victor Lindelof is also said to be carrying a knock, hence his absence vs Fulham.

“There’s a couple of niggles. Rashy got a dead leg against Leicester that he struggled with all week so we don’t want to risk him. Victor’s out, there’s not really a concern, I think he’ll be OK for Tuesday.”

Given Man United have a huge Champions League clash with PSG coming up next week, benching a slightly unfit Rashford vs 19th place Fulham does make some sense.

Victor Lindelof is also said to be carrying a knock, hence his absence vs Fulham.
