Why Manchester City star Ederson has pulled out of Brazil squad

It has been reported that Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has had to withdraw from the Brazil squad for the March international break due to illness.

The 28-year-old has been replaced in the 25-man squad by Atletico Mineiro's Everson.

In a short statement, the Brazil FA said: “The rest of the group arrives in Teresopolis this Tuesday, with the exception of goalkeeper Everson, summoned to replace fellow position Ederson. The Atletico-MG player joins the Brazilian team in Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday.”

Brazil are set to play out two World Cup qualifiers this month. The first is against Chile on Thursday the 24th and the second vs Bolivia on Wednesday the 30th of March.

As Brazil have already secured their spot at Qatar 2022, losing Ederson is not too much of a blow, especially with Liverpool no.1 Alisson standing by.

Will Ederson be ok for Manchester City’s next game?

The news of Ederson’s withdrawal is unlikely to please Manchester City fans, though.

They are at a crucial point in their campaign that sees them fighting it out with Liverpool for the title.

The Sky Blues are top of the Premier League at present, but Liverpool are only a point behind.

So, Pep Guardiola will need as strong a squad as possible available for the end-of-season run-in. It is not reported how serious Ederson’s illness is, though, and whether or not he will have recovered in time to face Burnley on April 2nd.
