Why Kevin De Bruyne is missing for Manchester City vs Chelsea

Why Kevin De Bruyne is missing for Manchester City vs Chelsea

Man City vs Chelsea

Saturday’s marquee Premier League fixture is set to play out shortly, and will see Manchester City and Chelsea face off at the Etihad.

The tie marks a huge one for both outfits, for differing reasons.

Man City, who currently sit 13 points clear of 2nd-placed Manchester United, will secure their 3rd Premier League title in five years if they manage to pick up a win against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are still fighting for a top-four finish.

At present, the Blues sit 4th in the English top-flight table, two points adrift of Leicester City in 3rd.

However, West Ham, who have a fairly handy run-in to the campaign, were only behind their London rivals by three points heading into the weekend’s action, meaning Chelsea really cannot afford to drop points.

Why De Bruyne missed Chelsea game

Ahead of kick-off this evening, both sides unveiled their starting line-ups an hour before kick-off.

And both managers opted to make a number of changes to the sides which proved victorious in the Champions League during the week.

It was Man City, though, who truly shook things up, with Ruben Dias and Ederson the only two players to have been handed starts on Tuesday, who remained this evening:

And whilst the majority of those rested – such as Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez – made the bench on Saturday, one key Citizens star was completely left out of the club’s matchday squad.

That player was Kevin De Bruyne, with Man City having since confirmed that the Belgian was not fully fit for selection:
