An explanation for the heated touchline bust-up between Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp on Saturday evening has been provided online.

Mane breaks the deadlock

The marquee fixture of the Premier League weekend is of course currently playing out at Anfield.

In the respective sides’ first outing on the back of the international break, Liverpool welcomed Arsenal to Merseyside, for a highly-anticipated showdown.

The matchup marks a crucial one for the two sides, with title-chasing Liverpool desperate for an immediate bounce-back result after falling to defeat at West Ham last time out, and Arsenal keen to maintain their spot in the top-6, amid a stellar spell of form.

With 45 minutes of action played out, though, it is the hosts who boast the advantage when it comes to the scoreline.

After peppering Aaron Ramsdale’s goal towards the end of the half, the breakthrough was finally found with 38 minutes on the clock, when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint set-piece delivery was nodded home at the back post by Sadio Mane:

As alluded to above, however, whilst Mane’s latest goal may separate the sides at Anfield as things stand, it is in fact another development during the opening 45 minutes which stands as the main talking point at the interval.

The incident in question saw the usually calm and collected Mikel Arteta completely lose his cool on the sideline, culminating in a major coming together with Jurgen Klopp.

The livid Arsenal boss required dragging away from the situation by members of the visitors’ staff, leading to understandable questions surrounding just what sparked his outburst.

Well, a short time ago, an explanation was provided for precisely that.

As per journalist Simon Collings, Arteta was left fuming by Sadio Mane, whom the Spaniard felt threw an elbow in the direction of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Klopp, in turn, hit back, culminating in an altogether heated spat between the pair:
