Why Fabinho is missing for Liverpool vs Manchester United

Manchester United vs Liverpool

The weekend’s marquee Premier League clash is set to play out later today.

The tie in question will see Manchester United and Liverpool face off at Old Trafford.

Liverpool head into the game on a fine run of form. The Reds would go to Spain in midweek and come away with an impressive 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, to ensure that they have picked up maximum points from their opening three Champions League games of the season.

Elsewhere, in the Premier League, Liverpool are the only side in the division yet to lose a single game this term.

Granted, they have drawn three of eight, but it is still an impressive record which left the Reds just one point off table-toppers Chelsea before the latest gameweek.

However, after Thomas Tuchel’s men smashed Norwich on Saturday, Liverpool have been left well aware that a win is needed this evening to keep pace with the current league leaders.

Why Fabinho missed out vs Man United

Liverpool, though, will have to make do without the services of one of their key players against Manchester United.

The Merseysiders, as is customary, released their starting line-up an hour before kick-off.

The XI, and squad, proved largely as expected, though it was slightly surprising to see Joel Matip dropped for Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota in for Sadio Mane.

The one major absence from the Liverpool matchday panel, however, came in the form of Fabinho.

And the Merseyside outfit have since been quick to provide an explanation for the Brazilian missing out, confirming that:

Fabinho misses out with a knock to his knee, which is not thought to be a long-term issue.
