Why Edouard Mendy got angry with Hakim Ziyech during Chelsea’s win over Malmo

Chelsea see off Malmo

Chelsea’s latest Champions League outing would see them face off with Mamo on Tuesday evening.

Malmo headed into the game having scored zero and shipped 11 goals in their previous three Champions League ties.

As a result, a win for the Londoners seemed very likely. However, Malmo would prove a tough nut to crack on the night, with the Blues only coming away with a 1-0 win thanks to a strike from Hakim Ziyech.

Said result means Chelsea stay second in Group H and will likely need to beat Juventus by at least two goals in the pair’s next meeting if they are to secure top spot in the group.

Why Mendy was angry with Ziyech during Malmo tie

Though Hakim Ziyech scored the only goal of the game against Malmo and put on a solid performance overall, the Moroccan still seemingly angered Chelsea’s no.1, Edouard Mendy, during the game.

As reported by football.london, Malmo’s Sergio Pena collected a drop ball in midfield and was put under very little pressure by Ziyech. This allowed the home side’s midfielder to clip a pass over the Chelsea defence and to Antonio Colak who volleyed narrowly wide.

Mendy was seemingly not happy with the poor pressing from Ziyech, racing towards the edge of his penalty area to point to an imaginary watch on his wrist, and demanded more from Ziyech.
