Why Dan James is not in Man United’s squad to face Spurs/Greenwood benching explained

 

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his altered frontline to face Tottenham this evening.

Capital showdown

The marquee fixture of the Premier League weekend is of course set to play out in north London shortly.

The clash in question will see Spurs play host to Manchester United, in a crunch showdown amid the race for a top-4 berth.

It is this evening’s visitors who boast the advantage ahead of kick-off, sitting 2nd in the English top-flight, with their Champions League status for next season looking all but assured.

Tottenham, though, have it all to do, after slipping to another disappointing result at Newcastle last time out.

Jose Mourinho’s men, in turn, sit 7th as things stand, aware that nothing but a 3-point haul will suffice following West Ham’s win over Leicester.

Ahead of the action getting underway in north London, as is customary, the starting line-ups of both sides were announced a short time ago.

Tottenham are set to line out as follows, with Eric Dier and, crucially, Heung-min Son in from the off:

Manchester United’s XI also features a couple of noteworthy changes, particularly up top, after the Red Devils got the better of  La Liga outfit Granada during the week.

Edinson Cavani comes in, with both Dan James and Mason Greenwood missing out, the former altogether:

In turn, speaking during a pre-match interview this evening, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was inevitably drawn on the shakeup to his frontline.

And the Norwegian went on to reveal that the aforementioned James picked up an injury in midweek, whilst Greenwood is suffering with a ‘slight niggle’:
