Why Chelsea and West Ham clapped together in the sixth minute of Premier League clash

Why Chelsea and West Ham clapped together in the sixth minute of Premier League clash

Chelsea travel to West Ham

Chelsea are currently locked in action with high-flying West Ham at the London stadium, looking to carry on the brilliant form that has seen them lose once all season.

With both Liverpool and Manchester City in action later today, the Blues know that a win will guarantee them top spot for another week. West Ham, however, are no pushovers, having already beaten the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool at home this season.

For the Hammers, a win would guarantee them a spot in the top four for another week, with Arsenal currently one point behind them, but they have not won in their last three games, since their 3-2 win over Liverpool.

Currently, the score is locked at 0-0, with few clear-cut chances having presented themselves to either side.

Applause breaks out on the sixth minute

In the sixth minute of the game, applause could be heard from both sides, as local rivalries were set aside for a deeper reason.

The applause was to pay respects to, and raise awareness about, the murder of six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, who was tortured and killed by his parents, Emma Tustin and Thomas Hughes, who received 29 and 21 years in prison respectively.

As per BBC News:

Arthur died of a head injury inflicted by Tustin on 16 June.

She photographed him lying on the floor, and shared the image with Hughes.

After his death, he was found to have 130 injuries.

The two clubs will be joined by many others up and down the country showing their respects for Arthur.
