Why Benjamin Mendy missed Man City’s 2018-19 treble party

Man City’s 2018-19 treble celebrations

Manchester City finally got to celebrate their success on Monday.

Manchester was awash in blue yesterday as Pep Guardiola and his players marked their historic treble-winning season in style.

City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup this term. No men’s team has previously wrapped up all 3 major domestic honours in one campaign.

Why Benjamin Mendy missed the party

Every player in Man City’s squad attended the event, except for one: Benjamin Mendy.

The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries this season. Indeed, the left-back only managed to play in 14 matches this campaign.

At the same time, Mendy has attracted criticism regarding his professionalism.

That piqued when a viral video spilled out onto social media of Mendy partying in the early hours before the Manchester derby with United.

While Guardiola defended Mendy on that occasion, a feeling has stuck that the Frenchman doesn’t take his career at City seriously enough.

Indeed, Man City have been linked with a possible swoop for Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell.

However, Mendy may have steered himself back into Guardiola’s good books by missing Monday’s festivities.

As confirmed in the Times, Mendy missed the party with his team-mates as he appears fully focused on his rehab:

Mendy is in Barcelona having treatment at Dr Ramón Cugat’s clinic on a knee injury.

The Times understands that Mendy recently had key-hole surgery on the knee in an attempt to remedy the problem.

He has cancelled a summer holiday to complete extra fitness work and ensure that he is ready for the club’s pre-season tour to China and Japan, which begins in July.

Did Man City drop the Premier League trophy?

Video spread on social media suggesting a cock-up happened during Man City’s celebrations.

However, it’s since been confirmed that the video in question was a prank for Manchester City’s in-house City TV.
