Why Aubameyang’s post-Man United social media activity has infuriated Arsenal’s fans

The latest social media activity on the part of Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has caused quite a stir amongst the club’s fanbase.

Smith Rowe & Odegaard not enough

The Gunners, of course, marked their return to action late last night.

After bouncing back from a first defeat since August courtesy of a 2-0 downing of Newcastle at the weekend, Arteta and co. tonight made the trip to Old Trafford for a Premier League showdown with Manchester United.

Arsenal were no doubt aware ahead of kick-off that a victory would have seen them climb clear of capital rivals West Ham, and into the English top-flight’s top-4.

When all was said and done, however, the visitors, ultimately, were put to the sword by an under-manned United outfit.

Both Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard did manage to find the target, but Bruno Fernandes’ strike on the stroke of the interval, followed by a 2nd-half brace from Cristiano Ronaldo, saw the Red Devils come away with all three points in Michael Carrick’s final game in charge.

Auba’s slip-up

In turn, on the back of a disappointing result, and overall display, it did not come as a major surprise to hear of Arsenal’s supporters being up in arms online on Thursday night.

A number of the club’s stars were singled out for heavy criticism on the back of the full-time whistle at Old Trafford, including Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard.

None, however, was more widely targeted than captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, owing to yet another frankly lifeless performance on the part of the former Borussia Dortmund man.

But, as alluded to above, the backlash surrounding ‘Auba’ over the last 24 hours has not been based solely on his display across the 90 minutes versus United.

This comes with the Gabonese’s post-match social media activity having also stirred up widespread bemusement amongst Arsenal’s fans.

Bizarrely, Aubameyang took to Instagram to ‘like’ the post-game celebrations of Manchester United counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo, whose brace ultimately condemned the Gunners to defeat:
