Who Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher was communicating with against Chelsea revealed

Manchester United gain a credible point

Manchester United travelled to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in a game that many United fans entered fearing the worst.

The Red Devils had not won a game in the Premier League in November, losing to both Manchester City and Watford, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost his job last weekend as a result, leaving Michael Carrick in temporary charge.

As per David Ornstein of the Athletic, he will not be at the helm long, with Ralph Rangnick, nicknamed “the godfather of gegenpressing”, set to take the wheel in the coming days.

However, Carrick has not put up a bad showing in his two games in charge. Off the back of a 2-0 win over Villareal, he was surely dreaming of the ultimate smash and grab raid when Jadon Sancho capitalised on a Jorginho mistake to put Manchester United 1-0 up.

Jorginho, however, redeemed himself, converting a penalty that Aaron Wan-Bissaka gave away, while some woeful Chelsea finishing ensured that the points were ultimately shared, a result Manchester United would surely have taken going into the affair.

Who Darren Fletcher was communicating with revealed

One of the central talking points early in the piece came from the Manchester United bench, where Darren Fletcher appeared to be communicating with someone via earpiece.

Some people were quick to question whether the person in question was incoming boss Rangnick, with the new style United adopted not dissimilar from that which Rangnick is expected to impose.

However, it has since been cleared up.

As per Simon Stone, of BBC Sport, Fletcher was in fact communicating with analysts, sat at the back of the ground, with Rangnick yet to have any real influence over the team.
