Who is Anthony Elanga, the wonderkid added to Man United’s squad for Granada clash?

Manchester United have confirmed the addition of Anthony Elanga to the club’s Europa League squad, but who exactly is the starlet?

Reds talent

18-year-old Elanga has long been viewed as one of the hottest up-and-coming prospects on the red half of Manchester.

The attacker, who generally lines out on the left but is also more than capable of playing through the middle, was snapped up by United eight years ago, after catching the eye of the club’s scouts.

And Elanga has since gone on to shine bright amongst a burgeoning crop of Red Devils youth talent.

The teen possesses a whole host of sought after traits, including quick feet, impressive ability in one-on-one situations, and, notably, en eye for goal.

Such characteristics were on full display last season, when Elanga beat out a host of competition to bag United’s heavily coveted Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.

Previous winners of the prize include the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and current first-team stars Marcius Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

And Elanga, in turn, has continued to impress to this point in the current campaign, despite having spent time on the sidelines with a collarbone injury.

All told, across 16 appearances, the Swede has notched 8 goals and 3 assists.

This includes 6 strikes at U23 level, where he struck up a stellar partnership alongside the likes of Hannibal Mejbri, Shola Shoretire and Joe Hugill.

European call-up

Such stellar form saw Elanga rewarded just last month, courtesy of a new long-term contract at Old Trafford:

And, as outlined above, the gifted attacker’s efforts have continued to be recognised by those in a position of power at Manchester United on Tuesday.

This comes with confirmation having been forthcoming that Elanga has been called up to the club’s Europa League squad, ahead of their upcoming meeting with La Liga outfit Granada.

Elanga is just the latest in a string of Reds youth products to have been handed a chance to impress at senior level by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of late, following in the footsteps of the likes of Amad Diallo and the aforementioned Shoretire.

It now remains to be seen whether he is afforded the opportunity to showcase his talents on the European stage in 48 hours’ time.
