‘Where would we be without him?’ Liverpool fans react to Alisson’s injury-time heroics vs Napoli

Supporters of Liverpool have flooded to social media this evening to thank Alisson Becker for his late, late intervention to secure the Reds’ passage to the Last-16 of the Champions League.

Liverpool vs Napoli

Jurgen Klopp’s men welcomed Napoli to Anfield tonight, in a Champions League Group C decider.

Ahead of kick-off, visitors Napoli sat top of the group C table on 9 points. Liverpool, meanwhile, sat in joint-2nd spot, a point adrift of the Partenopei, and locked on points with PSG.

As such, with PSG having been widely expected to make short work of Red Star, Liverpool were well aware that a point this evening would likely not prove enough.

Salah decisive

In the end, though, a deserved 3 points were exactly what the Merseysiders picked up.

A largely-dominant display on Liverpool’s part saw Mohamed Salah’s strike just past the half-hour mark prove decisive.

The Egyptian brilliantly skipped by Kalidou Koulibaly with ease inside the Napoli box, before slotting through the legs of former Arsenal shot-stopper David Ospina to notch the game’s solitary goal.

Alisson saves the day

However, while the Reds were deserved winners at Anfield, Napoli could, in truth, so easily have snatched a late, late equalizer to turn the Group C table on its head.

After the likes of Sadio Mane and Salah had gone close for Liverpool, a flicked Napoli cross to the back post deep into injury-time landed perfectly at the feet of the waiting Arkadiusz Milik.

The Partenopei substitute could hardly believe his luck, and no doubt saw his name in lights with the Liverpool goal at his mercy and not a defender in sight.

However, just when it looked as though the Polish hitman was set to break Reds’ hearts the world over, Alisson leapt into action, throwing himself bravely in front of Milik to make the save, and, in the process, secure a crucial, crucial win for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

‘Where would we be without him?’

And Liverpool’s fans have certainly not taken their big-money summer signing’s late heroics for granted, with the Anfield faithful having since taken to Twitter in their droves to lavish praise on Alisson for his latest moment of brilliance:
