Jose Mourinho, Jorge Mendes & Man United
Man United have sacked Jose Mourinho.
According to Graeme Souness, “I’m not surprised”.
Talking to Sky Sports News on Tuesday, the Scottish talking-head has revealed his belief that Jorge Mendes dropped a huge hint that Mourinho was a goner last week.
That’s after Mendes, Mourinho’s agent, released a statement saying that the Special One was staying at Old Trafford.
To recap, just last week Mendes told the Telegraph the following:
There have been more rumours of Jose Mourinho leaving Manchester United. It’s totally untrue.
Jose is very happy at the club and the club is very happy with him. He has a long-term contract with Manchester United and is fully committed to the club in building a solid winning project.
It’s worth noting that Mourinho dismissed Mendes’ statement.
In his presser before Man United’s Champions League trip to Valencia, Mourinho responded the what Mendes said:
I’ve nothing to do with the statement, is just [a] statement, is not my statement.
No, I didn’t know at all and I don’t care about it.
What Graeme Souness thinks
For Graeme Souness, he believes that what Mendes was doing by issuing his statement was to relay a message to the Man United board that they’d have to sack Mourinho.
Of course, Man United handed Mourinho a contract extension until 2022 at the start of the year.
So how much will Man United have to pay to Mourinho?
According to Duncan Castles, it’s a huge fee:
Manchester United face a bill in the region of £24million after the English Premier League club elected to replace Jose Mourinho as manager before the end of the winter transfer window.
