Emile Smith Rowe pens new contract

Arsenal’s stars have continued to commit their futures to the Emirates stadium with Emile Smith Rowe following in the footsteps of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka by signing a new long-term deal in north London.

The deal ends speculation that had persisted around the Englishman’s future, with Aston Villa rumoured to be keen on signing the 20 year old and even having gone as far as having two bids rejected for the affectionately dubbed “Croydon De Bruyne”.

However, his new deal, combined with the taking of the iconic no.10 shirt, has put to bed any such rumours, with Villa now thought to have turned their attentions elsewhere.

What does this mean for James Maddison

In the hunt for a creative player, one of the rumours that has persisted this summer is Arsenal’s chase of Leicester City’s James Maddison. The Leicester man was in and out of the Foxes side last season, and reports suggest that he would be open to a move to north London.

However, as The Athletic’s David Ornstein, so often reliable for Arsenal news, reports, such a deal may not be feasible for the Gunners this window.

Taking to Twitter to clarify quotes he made on Sky Sports, Ornstein said:

“ESR is now rightly the priority at 10 so while Arsenal are still looking to recruit in that area to compete with / support him I’m not sure they’ll go to the level required to sign Maddison (didn’t say they don’t have the money)”

Could the club now be looking for a backup for their new no.10, rather than a first-team option?
