West Ham vs Southampton betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

West Ham vs Southampton prediction: West Ham 2-1 Southampton

West Ham are enjoying life right now.

After a famous win last weekend, Manuel Pellegrini will be desperate to get a victory in their final home game of the season.

As for Southampton, they secured their safety last weekend but Ralph Hasenhüttl will be targeting a strong finish to the season.

Who will come out on top at the London Stadium?

James Ward-Prowse

West Ham United vs Southampton: Who will win?

West Ham have won just 8 home league matches this season but are favourites at 13/10 to make that 9.

Southampton won their very first trip to the London Stadium in 2016 and are 19/10 to repeat that.

A draw is 13/5.

Over 2.5 goals is 4/7.

Both teams to score is 4/9.

West Ham to win and both teams to score is 5/2.

Marko Arnautović hasn’t scored in any of his last 11 appearances. However, the Austrian is 4/1 to score first and 7/5 to end that run.

Michail Antonio, who scored in West Ham’s last two games, is 11/2 to score first and 2/1 to make it 3 in a row.

Shane Long is also in great form. He’s 11/2 to score first and 2/1 to score anytime.

Both Arnautović and Antonio to score is 7/1.

Both Arnautović and Hernández to score is 9/2.

Both Shane Long and Danny Ings to score is 15/2.

Both Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and James Ward-Prowse to score is 22/1.

West Ham United vs Southampton: Match preview

A day no West Ham fan will ever forget.

Last weekend, Michail Antonio scored the only goal of the game as the Hammers became the first visiting side to win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Interestingly, they were also the first side to beat Arsenal at the Emirates, back in April 2007.

That result keeps them in 11th place but they’ll be targeting a top half finish in the remaining two matches.

Can Manuel Pellegrini’s side finish with a flourish at home?

As for Southampton, they too are guaranteed to be in the Premier League again next season.

Last weekend they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at home with Bournemouth.

That point was enough to ensure the Saints will be playing Premier League football for the eighth season running.

In the table, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men are 16th but could mathematically finish as high as 12th.

Southampton have won just 4 away games all season so can they add to that measly tally here?

After an outstanding win last weekend, West Ham are expected to make just one change and that is enforced.

As always, Łukasz Fabiański will be in goal; he’s made the most saves in the Premier League (140).

At full back, Ryan Fredericks and Arthur Masuaku appear to be the first choice ahead of Pablo Zabaleta and Aaron Cresswell respectively.

At centre-back, Issa Diop and Fabián Balbuena will continue their solid partnership.

Midfield will be where the only change comes.

Robert Snodgrass picked up his 10th yellow card of the season last weekend so is suspended for the remainder of the season.

Pedro Obiang will come in, joining Mark Noble and Declan Rice in midfield.

Two of Felipe Anderson’s 10 goals this season came in the space of 6 minutes at Southampton in December.

He’ll, as always, be on the left.

Michail Antonio will keep his place on the right.

All 26 of his Premier League goals, including the winner last weekend, have been scored from inside the penalty area.

However, surprisingly, that goal at Spurs was with his right foot.

Of players to score at least 25 Premier League goals, only John Terry (66%) has scored a higher percentage of his goals via headers than Michail Antonio (15/26, 57%).

Up front will be a man desperate for any sort of goal.

Marko Arnautović.

His last goal came on December 2, 2019 so will his barren run finally end?

West Ham have had a lot of injuries this season.

Winston Reid, Carlos Sánchez, Samir Nasri, Manuel Lanzini, Andriy Yarmolenko and Andy Carroll all remain out.

Do the players who are fit have enough quality to defeat Southampton?

Shane Long

As for Southampton, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s sides have been very difficult to predict this season.

Despite the fact he’s predominantly played 3-4-2-1, he’s expected to start with a 4-3-3 just like last weekend.

Angus Gunn is his first choice goalkeeper now, surpassing Alex McCarthy. It should be noted that in his pre-match presser the Southampton boss hinted at a surprise start for Fraser Forster in one of the final two matches of the season.

In defence, Jannik Vestergaard has a foot injury so Jack Stephens will continue alongside Jan Bednarek.

Matt Targett’s goal and solid performance off the bench last weekend should see him come in for Ryan Bertrand.

In midfield, Oriol Romeu is suspended after picking up his tenth booking of the season last weekend.

Mario Lemina will come in to join Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and James Ward-Prowse.

Up front, Shane Long has scored in three successive home Premier League games for the first time ever.

He also scored in Southampton’s last away match after just 7 seconds at Watford, the fastest goal in Premier League history.

Those 4 goals in his last 5 are as many as Long had scored in his previous 69 appearances.

Despite his good form, he’s expected to be on the right again with Danny Ings through the middle.

Will this XI leave the London Stadium with a point or even all 3?
