Where will West Ham finish this season?

Last year, Manuel Pellegrini guided the Hammers to a top ten finish in his first season in charge.

They won their last three games of last season including an historic 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There is a lot of optimism in East London that this could be another successful campaign.

On the opening day of last season, they were demolished 4-0 at Anfield and this year, they’ve got an equally daunting opener.

Can Pellegrini cause a big upset against his former employers?

As for Manchester City, the question really is how many trophies will they win?

They got this season off to the perfect start last weekend in the FA Community Shield.

Raheem Sterling’s 12th minute goal helped them to a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Wembley which forced a penalty shootout.

İlkay Gündoğan, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus all converted from the spot as they won 5-4 on penalties.

Pep Guardiola’s side retained the Community Shield and ensuring they’ve now won five domestic trophies in a row.

That’s because, last season, they became the first English mens team to win the League title, FA Cup and League Cup.

Across the last two league campaigns, they’ve amassed 198 points; a staggering amount.

This side are going to take some stopping and they should kick off their league campaign with a win.

It’s been a summer of change at West Ham.

Ten first-team players have left with five coming in.

Manuel Pellegrini is expected to give debuts to his two big money signings.

Łukasz Fabiański remains the first choice goalkeeper despite the arrival of two new goalkeepers; Roberto and David Martin.

In defence, big bids for Issa Diop were turned down so he’ll start alongside Fabián Balbuena at centre-back.

Aaron Cresswell and Ryan Fredericks are expected to be preferred to Arthur Masuaku and Pablo Zabaleta respectively at full-back.

Declan Rice will continue to anchor the midfield after impressing everyone last season.

Pablo Fornals, who’s joined from Villarreal for £24 million, will make his debut for the club.

Manuel Lanzini, Jack Wilshere and Robert Snodgrass are all expected to only be on a strong bench.

Michail Antonio will start on the right ahead of Andriy Yarmolenko

The latter has not played since October 20th after suffering an achilles tendon rupture.

Up front, Andy Carroll, Lucas Pérez and Marko Arnautović have all left the club over the summer.

£45 million has been spent on Sébastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt to try and fill that attacking void.

Can he get a debut goal and help West Ham pull off a massive upset?

As for Manchester City, they’re expected to make three changes from the side that played in the FA Community Shield

One of those changes will be in goal.

Claudio Bravo made his first appearance for 364 days at Wembley last weekend but regular number one Ederson will come back in.

Oleksandr Zinchenko will continue at left-back but Aymeric Laporte will come in alongside him, displacing Nicolás Otamendi.

João Cancelo, who joined from Juventus on Wednesday, is unlikely to be thrown straight in.

Incidentally, Danilo went the other way to Turin.

Another summer signing Rodri will continue to anchor the midfield ahead of Fernandinho and İlkay Gündoğan.

Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva will once again be ahead of him with Phil Foden on the bench once more.

Leroy Sané went off injured early on last weekend so will not play here.

Raheem Sterling will move back out wide with Sergio Agüero coming in through the middle.

Will this side simply have too much firepower for West Ham?
