West Ham vs Cardiff City betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

West Ham vs Cardiff prediction: West Ham 2-0 Cardiff

Two sides who are both riding the crest of a wave.

West Ham got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-0 win at St James’ Park.

Cardiff got their third win of the season on Friday night over Wolves and are looking for back to back Premier League win for the first time in their history.

Who’ll leave the London Stadium with three points?

West Ham vs Cardiff City: Who will win?

West Ham are favourites at 7/10 to claim victory.

Cardiff are 19/5 to get their first away win of the season.

A draw is 14/5.

Under 2/5 goals is priced at 10/11.

Marko Arnautović is West Ham’s top scorer. The Austrian is 3/1 to score first and 11/10 to net anytime.

Javier Hernández scored a brace on Saturday and is 4/1 to score first again and 5/4 to score anytime.

Callum Paterson will lead the line for the visitors. The Scotland international is 9/1 to break the deadlock and 11/4 to score anytime.

Both Arnautović and Hernández to score is 7/2.

West Ham vs Cardiff City: Match preview

West Ham’s form continues to be predictably unpredictable.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side go on three or four game runs of defeats, followed by an unbeaten run and then another run of defeats.

They lost their first 4 before amassing 7 points from their next three.

Then, it was just one win in 6 which saw them sink down towards the drop zone.

However, they got back to winning ways on Saturday.

Two from Javier Hernández and a goal by Felipe Anderson saw them hammer Newcastle 3-0 at St James’ Park; a statement victory over a side in-and-around them in the table.

With favourable fixture to come between now and 12 January, they’ll hope this is the start of another decent run of results.

Will their attacking flair prove to be too good for Cardiff?

Cardiff though, to the surprise of many, are picking up wins.

The Bluebirds have now won 3 of their last 4 home games, coming from behind to win each and every one of them.

On Friday night, they came from 1-0 down to beat Wolves; Aron Gunnarsson and Junior Hoilett with the goals.

That, surprisingly, leaves them 16th on 11 points, two clear of the drop zone.

They too have some winnable games coming up but have only amassed one point on their travels, a goalless draw at Huddersfield in August, and will need to improve on that.

Can they get a surprise win here?

After such a good win, it would be a surprise if West Ham made too many changes.

Despite over £100 million being spent in the summer, Łukasz Fabiański at £8 million has ben one of their best buys.

The Polish international has made 57 saves in the Premier League this season; only former hammer Joe Hart has made more (61).

Fabián Balbuena and Issa Diop appear to be forging a solid partnership together at the back; they’ve started the last 11 games together.

Aaron Cresswell will retain his place at left back ahead of Arthur Masuaku.

Jack Wilshere came off the bench on Saturday after 3 months out but may be limited to a cameo role again.

They changed to a 4-4-2 for that win at Newcastle but this time Pedro Obiang may well come in for Mark Noble.

After being cast aside last season, Robert Snodgrass’ resurgence has come as a surprise to many West Ham fans.

The other attacking players, Felipe Anderson, Marko Arnautović and Javier Hernández, possess the requisite firepower to hurt most defences in the league and should be too good for Cardiff.

With Andriy Yarmolenko nursing a nasty injury, these three could play together more in the future.

Andy Carroll could make his first appearance of the season from the bench.

Will they get their fifth win of the season?

Cardiff too have a settled side.

Neil Warnock switched to a back 3 for the victory over Wolves.

However, that was more to match their opponents formation and it seems likely they’ll revert to a back 4 for this game.

Centre-back Sean Morrison has had more touches in the opposition’s box than any other Premier League defender (55).

If they do revert to a back 4, Joe Bennett will come in at left-back.

Víctor Camarasa played at right wing-back on Friday but will revert to his more familiar central role.

Josh Murphy and Junior Hoilett will be a threat from wide positions.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing made his first appearance since August in that game after a spell on the sidelines.

With no recognised centre-forward, Callum Paterson will continue upfront.

Can they leave the London Stadium with a point or even all three?
