Everton, West Ham & Andre Gomes
The race to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes appears to be heating up.
25-year-old Portugal international Gomes spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Everton.
Gomes played 27 times for Everton in the Premier League, scoring once and contributing one assist.
Everton, though, failed to secure an option to sign Gomes in a permanent deal last summer, which means the Toffees are now running the risk of seeing the Spaniard sign for a Premier League rival.
West Ham have also been chasing Gomes this summer. However, the Evening Standard are reporting on Tuesday that the Hammers may have lost the chance to sign the midfielder:
West Ham’s hopes of signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes have been dealt a blow after they learned the player prefers a move to Everton, Standard Sport understands.
The Hammers have made a £20million bid for Gomes but the 25-year-old is keen on a return to Goodison Park, where he spent last season on loan.
Hammers turn to Newcastle
After their Gomes’ setback, West Ham are turning their attention to St James’ Park. The Standard report:
Pellegrini wants to strengthen in midfield and Newcastle duo Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden are among possible alternatives.
Both players would be available for around £15m and would help their homegrown player quota.
Shelvey, 27, is under contract at Newcastle until 2021. Last season, Shelvey played 16 times in the league, scoring once and chipping in with one assist.
24-year-old Hayden is also under contract with the Magpies until 2021. Hayden made 25 Premier League appearances last term.
What’s going on with Marko Arnautovic?
On Monday, Football London claimed that Marko Arnautovic was set to stay at West Ham in 2019-20.
However, the Sun have challenged that opinion on Tuesday, reporting that Arnautovic is a target for Inter Milan.
Inter boss Conte eyes Arnautovic and £30m could be enough to tempt West Ham https://t.co/NbCBcx0URN
