Celta Vigo standout
Maxi Gomez is currently one of the brightest young forwards in the Spanish top-flight.
Gomez would make the switch to Celta Vigo in 2017 from Defensor Sporting Club.
The Spaniard would have a superb debut campaign for Celta Vigo, which saw him score 18 and assist five in 36 La Liga outings.
Gomez’s 2018/19 season wasn’t quite as impressive, as he scored 13 and assisted five in 35 league fixtures.
However, considering the fact that Celta Vigo were fighting relegation for much of the season, and finished just one place above the drop zone, 13 goals is still a good return.
Valencia vs West Ham
After having two solid seasons in Spain, Gomez looks to be attracting the attention of several clubs.
It was previously reported that West Ham had bid for the 22-year-old.
However, it was later alleged that Gomez would prefer to join Tottenham over West Ham.
Then, on Thursday the 4th of July, Spanish outlet Marca claimed that Valencia had agreed a deal with Celta Vigo for Gomez’s services.
The Gomez saga would take yet another twist late on Thursday evening, though.
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, West Ham are now attempting to hijack Valencia’s deal for Gomez.
West Ham are trying to hijack the deal for Maxi Gomez with Valencia (so advanced but not signed yet…). The Hammers are working on it with the agents of the Celta Vigo striker. Not easy but… talks ongoing. #WHUFC #WestHam #transfers

Romano then posted a fresh update on Friday morning, claiming that the Hammers are still trying for Gomez, with talks ongoing:
