West Ham & Boavista’s Goncalo Cardoso
West Ham United are set to sign a new centre-half before the Premier League transfer window closes on Thursday.
As confirmed by multiple sources on Monday, the Hammers seem to be close to signing Boavista defender Goncalo Cardoso.

Who is Goncalo Cardoso?
Goncalo Cardoso is an 18-year-old defender, who plays at centre-half.
Cardoso is left-footed, and he’s also capable of filling in at left-back.
Aside from playing for Boavista in the Portuguese top-flight, Cardoso also represented his country at the recent Euro U19 Championship.
Last season, Cardoso made 15 appearances for Boavista in the league.

How much will West Ham pay Boavista?
The Evening Standard have looked into the issue of the transfer fee:
West Ham are closing in on a £2.75million deal to sign Boavista defender Goncalo Cardoso.
As to issues such as wages and the length of Cardoso’s proposed West Ham contract, those issues remain unknown.
Signing incoming at West Ham: they have beaten a number of clubs to sign Goncalo Cardoso, Portugal’s Under-19 captain, from Boavista for £2.75m. Talks held last week, he’s flying in to complete today. A very promising talent.

Will Goncalo Cardoso get into West Ham’s XI?
To start with, Cardoso is expected to be a back-up player at the London Stadium.
Manuel Pellegrini is tipped to start the season with Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena as his preferred centre-back pairing.
