West Ham secure club-record deal for Lazio’s Felipe Anderson

As per a report from Sky Sports News this afternoon, Premier League outfit West Ham United have clinched a deal with Lazio for winger Felipe Anderson.

Pacy wide-man

Anderson, a 25-year-old once-capped Brazilian international, has been on the books of Lazio since 2013, when he made the move to the Stadio Olimpico from Santos for a fee of around 8 million Euro.

After struggling for game-time during his debut campaign in the Italian capital, Anderson burst onto the scene during his second season with Lazio, racking up 10 goals and 7 assists in Serie A, and showcasing exactly why he had previously been so highly-regarded in Brazil.

However, although he has since gone on to continue to prove his undoubted talents in the years since, Anderson has failed to develop into the potential world-beater that he had been touted as during the early years of his career, with blistering, trick-filled performances up and down the flanks for Lazio too often followed by absolutely anonymous showings on the part of the South American.

Suitors

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Anderson on several occasions in the past, but the Red Devils were reportedly never willing to meet Lazio’s hefty valuation of their gifted winger.

In addition, Chelsea were named as surprise suitors of the 25-year-old back in May, but, as per a number of reports over the last month, West Ham United since emerged as the clear leading candidates to secure a deal for Anderson.

Hammers boss’ Manuel Pellegrini is said to be eyeing reinforcements out wide this summer, with Anderson having been identified as an ideal target.

As such, West Ham and Lazio have been locked in negotiations for over a month, though Lazio’s refusal (up to now) to budge on their 50 million Euro asking price was rumoured to have seen the English outfit call a definitive end to their pursuit late last month.

Agreement reached

However, the last week saw reports begin to mount that West Ham had reignited talks with the Biancocelesti, amid suggestions that a compromise on Anderson’s price-tag may be found.

And, as per the aforementioned update from Sky Sports News this afternoon, such a settlement has today been reached, with the Hammers set to splash out a club-record £35 million (around 40 million Euro) to secure the Santos youth product’s signature:

News on Anderson’s imminent move to the London stadium comes just a day after West Ham announced the arrival of Andriy Yarmolenko at the club from Borussia Dortmund.
