West Ham or Real Betis? Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi has a deadline day decision to make

According to numerous reports across the English media this afternoon, Chelsea have agreed deals in principle with both West Ham United and Real Betis, over Michy Batshuayi.

Chelsea struggles

25-year-old striker Batshuayi has been on the books of the Blues since 2016, when he made the move to Stamford Bridge from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille for 40 million Euro.

However, despite the hefty fee splashed out on his signature, Batshuayi has since largely failed to impress with Chelsea.

After managing just 4 Premier League starts across his first 18 months in the English capital, the Belgian international was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund for the second-half of last season, with Batshuayi having subsequently gone on to enjoy a superb start to life at the Westfalenstadion.

However, after racking up 7 goals across his first 10 Bundesliga appearances, a nasty ankle injury picked up by the hitman in April saw ‘the Batsman’ ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

Valencia flop

As such, after once again being deemed surplus to requirements on his return to Chelsea last summer, Batshuayi was sent on another loan spell away from Stamford Bridge, this time to Spanish outfit Valencia.

The Standard Liege youth product’s time in La Liga has since proven a major disappointment, though, with his return of just 1 league goal to this point in the season having seen Valencia make the decision to cut Batshuayi’s stint at the Mestalla short.

West Ham or Real Betis?

In the aftermath of Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea themselves also have no interest in retaining Batshuayi’s services for the second-half of the season, though.

As a result, yet another temporary spell away from the Blues appears to be imminent.

And, as per a growing number of reports this afternoon, Chelsea have in fact reached agreements with both West Ham United and Real Betis over the Belgian.

Both deals appear to be in the form of loans for the remainder of the season.

The decision on which club to join, however, will be left up to Batshuayi himself.

Everton and Tottenham, meanwhile, were both also rumoured to have expressed interest in Batshuayi’s signature.
