Fernandes struggling for game time
Gedson Fernandes has spent all of his senior career in Portugal with Benfica.
The now 20-year-old has worked his way up through Benfica’s youth ranks, and has since gone on to notch 58 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese champions’ senior side.
In those 58 games, the midfielder has scored three goals and provided seven assists.
The 2018/19 campaign certainly proved to be fruitful for the young star, as he was a regular feature for Benfica, racking up 46 appearances.
However, the 2019/20 season has so far proved to be slightly less rewarding for Fernandes.
Fernandes has earned just six league appearances so far this season, with only two of those outings coming as a starter.

Fernandes to Premier League?
It was reported earlier this month by Sky Sports News that Fernandes was thought to have fallen out of favour with Benfica head coach Bruno Lage, which may explain his lack of playing time.
And with the January transfer window now open, could we see Fernandes on the move?
The previously linked report from Sky Sports also mentioned how Manchester United were interested in signing Fernandes.
But it seems the Red Devils could face competition for Fernandes’ signature from a Premier League rival.
Sky have now reported on Friday the 3rd of January that West Ham United are in talks with Benfica over the signing of Fernandes.
The report from Sky goes on to state that the two parties are in discussions over an 18-month loan deal, which could include an option to buy.
Fernandes’ release clause is set at £102m, but Benfica have conceded that they will not get close to that fee for an out-of-favour player, as per SSN.
