Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo are reporting that West Ham are keen to sign Barcelona’s Andre Gomes and are willing to use Domingos Quina as a part of the deal.
Struggling at Barca
Gomes arrived at Camp Nou in 2016 from fellow La Liga side Valencia for a fee of around £33.3 million.
However, after spending two seasons at Barcelona, Gomes has failed to impress. The centre midfielder has made 78 appearances for the Catalan side but he has only scored three and assisted four in that time.
While Gomes’s lack of goals may be excused due to him being a centre mid, the fact he has managed just four assists for Barcelona is simply not good enough.
Especially when Gomes has the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in front of him.
On the other hand, Gomes has shown from his time at Valencia what a top midfielder he can be and perhaps all is needed is a change of club.
So far West Ham have added seven players to their squad this summer.
West Ham broke their transfer record when they signed Felipe Anderson from Lazio for a fee of around £34.2m.
The Hammers also splashed the cash on Issa Diop from Toulouse and Andriy Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund for whom they paid £22.5m and £18m respectably.
Pellegrini was also able to secure the signings of Lukas Fabianski from Swansea for a fee of around £7.2m, Fabián Balbuena from Corinthians for around £3.6m, Ryan Fredericks on a free and Jack Wilshere on a free.
And despite all of these top signings West Ham could well be set to add a few more names before the window shuts.
One of which could well be Gomes.
