West Brom 2 – Southampton 3
Just when it looked like West Brom were turning a corner, the Baggies have been rocked back on their heels.
Alan Pardew have got West Brom back to winning ways a few weeks ago.
They knocked Liverpool out the FA Cup at Anfield, while they beat Brighton in the Premier League.
But the last games have resulted in two West Brom defeats against Man City and Southampton.
Southampton won 3-2 at the Hawthorns on Saturday in a game the Baggies need to win.
Ahmed Hegazy put the hosts 1-up with a fourth minute header from a corner. But Saints hit back before the break.
Mario Lemina levelled with a stunner from distance before Jack Stephens scored his third goal in as many games.
A free-kick from James Ward-Prowse put Saints 3-1 up ten minutes after the restart. Salomon Rondon’s header set up a nervy finish.
Alan Shearer doubts Daniel Sturridge
West Brom are bottom of the Premier League.
They are four points adrift of escaping the drop zone, and things are beginning to look bleak in the Black Country.
Pardew’s big January deal was bringing in Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on loan.
The Liverpool forward started the Southampton match, but he was subbed out the game for Jay Rodriguez just after the hour mark.
Will the Sturridge deal work out? While it’s early days, on Match of the Day Alan Shearer questioned whether Sturridge has the mental strength to prove himself.
