Man United 0 – West Brom 1
No-one saw that result coming.
In one of the shock of the Premier League season, West Brom won 1-0 at Man United on Sunday.
The Baggies win meant that Man City were crowned the 2017-18 Premier League champions.
Jay Rodriguez was the match-winner for West Brom in the second half.
Can the Baggies beat the drop? That still seems hugely unlikely.
West Brom remain glued to the foot of the table on 24 points from 34 games.
Darren Moore’s odds slashed after Man United
Yet, the West Brom win at Man United could have a significant long-term impact at the Hawthorns.
West Brom are looking for a new manager having sacked Alan Pardew a few weeks ago.
Following the Man United game, Ladbrokes have slashed odds of Darren Moore taking over West Brom on a permanent basis, now making him a genuine contender for the vacancy.
The caretaker boss has taken four points from a possible six, and following the Baggies’ shock victory over Man United last weekend, his odds of taking over were cut by the bookies from 12/1 to just 6/1.
That puts him firmly among the frontrunners, while Mick McCarthy remains the 2/1 favourite ahead of Patrick Kluivert (5/1) and Michael Appleton (6/1).
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Baggies fans must be wondering what might’ve been had Big Dave have taken over a month or two back – but if the latest odds are anything to go by, they could be seeing more of Moore next season.”
