Graeme Souness on Arsenal & Arsene Wenger
Ever since news broke on Friday that Arsene Wenger is leaving Arsenal, most have begun to shower the Frenchman with praise.
Has it all been good at Arsenal under Wenger? Of course not.
Yet, most observers and even most Arsenal fans have been willing to shelve their ‘Wenger Out’ anger now that change is coming.
However Graeme Souness isn’t one for following the crowd, and he’s used his weekly column in the Sunday Times to bash Wenger’s Arsenal legacy.
Man United’s Sir Alex Ferguson & Liverpool’s Bob Paisley
Souness has sought to redress the balance, claiming that Wenger’s second decade at Arsenal was poor.
Moreover, the pundit has vented at those who are trying to compare Wenger’s Arsenal history to what Sir Alex Ferguson achieved at Man United. Souness, a former Liverpool star, has also compared Wenger to Bob Paisley:
He is compared to Fergie, but he shouldn’t be because there’s no comparison when it comes to the great teams they built and the trophies they won.
Wenger arguably had a couple of great sides, but Fergie had several and won 13 league titles and the Champions League twice, as well as five FA Cups and four League Cups.
Bob Paisley, who signed me for Liverpool, won six league titles, three European Cups and three League Cups in nine years in charge at Anfield.
Wenger should have won more.
Arsenal vs West Ham
Arsenal return to action on Sunday in the Premier League as West Ham visit the Emirates Stadium.
With a Europa League semifinal against Atletico Madrid set for Thursday night, will Wenger rotate his side against the Hammers?
West Ham have one of the worst away records in the Premier League. The Hammers have won just 2 games on the road all season.
These two sides played out a miserable 0-0 draw earlier in the season and we can only hope that Sunday’s match is more entertaining.
