Watford vs Wolves prediction: Watford 1-2 Wolves

For the third time this season, these two go head to head.

Watford have won both meetings so far at Wembley and Molineux.

Will Wolves win at Vicarage Road?

This could be a pivotal match in the race for European football.

Gerard Deulofeu has been in scintillating form for Watford recently. The Spanish international is 9/2 to break the deadlock and 2/1 to get his 12th goal of the season.

Andre Gray will be alongside him. He’s 11/2 to score first and 12/5 to net anytime.

One of Raúl Jiménez’s 16 goals this season came in the FA Cup semi-final between these two sides. The Mexican is, the same as Deulofeu, 9/2 to score first and 2/1 to score anytime.

Diogo Jota got his 9th goal of the season on Wednesday. He’s 6/1 to score first and 5/2 to score anytime.

Both Deulofeu and Gray to score is 10/1.

Both Raúl Jiménez and Jota to score is also 10/1.

Both Étienne Capoue and Matt Doherty to score is 110/1.

Watford vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: Match preview

What can Watford achieve this season?

When these two sides last met at the beginning of the month, Watford came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and qualify for the FA Cup Final.

Javi Gracia’s side will take on Manchester City in four weeks time as he looks to become the first ever Watford manager to lift major silverware.

In the league though, they’re in a strong position to finish in the best of the rest position.

On Tuesday night, Andre Gray scored a stoppage time equaliser as the Hornets drew 1-1 with Southampton.

That result means they are currently 8th.

A win here would see them move back into seventh so will there be more Watford celebrations at Wolves’ expense?

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side moved 1 point above their hosts on Wednesday night.

That’s after, arguably, their most impressive performance and win of the season.

First half goals from Rúben Neves, Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota saw them hammer Arsenal 3-1.

That was the first time in their Premier League history that Wolves had been 3 or more up at half time.

They’re also now unbeaten in 10 matches at Molineux, a run stretching back to January 2, 2019.

Wolves have not played European football since losing to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Cup first round in 1981.

A win here would massively increase their chances of being back next season.

One of the features of these two sides this season has been consistency in selection.

Watford may have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 9 Premier League games but there won’t be changes in the back 4.

Unlike in the FA Cup meeting between the two, Ben Foster will be in goal.

He’s played more minutes in the Premier League than anybody else at Watford.

In defence, despite his costly error just 6 seconds into the game on Tuesday, Craig Cathcart will continue to partner Christian Kabasele.

José Cholevas is still injured so Adam Masina will continue at left-back.

On the other side, Daryl Janmaat appears to have surpassed Kiko Femenía in the pecking order.

It’ll be the same midfield quartet as usual.

Abdoulaye Doucouré and Étienne Capoue will continue to play a key role.

Roberto Pereyra returned in midweek after 2 games out with a hip injury.

Capoue and Pereyra scored within 60 seconds of each other in the 2-0 win at Molineux in November.

Up front, Troy Deeney is serving the third of his three match ban for the red card he got against Arsenal.

So, Andre Gray and Cup semi-final hero Gerard Deulofeu will continue in attack.

The latter has scored 8 goals in his last 9 appearances.

Will this side defeat Wolves for the third time this season and leapfrog them into seventh?

Wolverhampton Wanderers team news vs Watford

This season, Wolves have picked up 16 points against the top 6 but only 11 points against the bottom 6.

Can they defeat the side currently 8th?

Nevertheless, after an outstanding display midweek, Nuno Espírito Santo is expected to name an unchanged side.

In fact, this would be the 15th time this exact XI have started together in the Premier League this season.

Like Watford, they too picked their cup keeper in the semi-final 3 weeks ago.

However, also like Watford, their regular number 1, Rui Patrício, will be between the sticks here.

It’ll be the settled back 3 of Coady, Bennett and Boly once again.

Right wing-back Matt Doherty has now been involved in 8 goals and 7 assists this season.

That’s the second highest goal involvement of any Wolves player.

Rúben Neves’ free-kick in midweek was his eighth goal from outside the box since the start of last season; only 2 players in England’s top 4 divisions have more.

Amazingly, Neves also has more goals this season (4) than touches in the opposition’s penalty area (3).

Up front, Jota and Raúl Jiménez have 25 goals between them this season.

Can they add to those here?

Will Wolves finally win against Watford at the third attempt this season?
