Watford vs Sheffield United betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Watford vs Sheffield United prediction: Watford 0-2 Sheffield United

Watford are in big trouble.

Despite a managerial change, the Hornets are still winless, bottom of the table and in desperate need of some points.

Sheffield United meanwhile suffered a heartbreak defeat last weekend.

Even so, the Blades have impressed many on their return to the Premier League and look like they will survive.

Watford vs Sheffield United: Who will win?

Watford, despite their currently predicament, are 11/10 and favourites to win this one.

Despite the fact they won their last away game, Sheffield United are a huge 12/5 to win in Hertfordshire.

A draw is 5/2.

Both teams to score no is evens.

Sheffield United to win and both teams to score no is 5/1.

Gerard Deulofeu has looked dangerous for Watford recently. The Spaniard is 11/2 to break the deadlock and 9/4 to open his account for the season.

Danny Welbeck meanwhile got his first goal for the club in the Carabao Cup ten days ago. He is 5/1 to open the scoring and 21/10 to net anytime.

Callum Robinson could lead the line for the visitors. He is also 5/1 to break the deadlock and 21/10 to score anytime.

Oliver McBurnie could be his strike partner. The Scotland international is 5/1 to score first and 2/1 to score anytime.

Both Deulofeu and Welbeck to score is 10/1.

Both Abdoulaye Doucouré and Roberto Pereyra to score is 25/1.

Both Robinson and McBurnie to score is 17/2.

Both John Lundstram and Oliver Norwood to score is 75/1.

Watford still winless.

Last weekend, they faced the other side yet to taste victory in the Premier League, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, a bizarre own goal from Daryl Janmaat helped see them to a 2-0 defeat at Molineux.

That means the Hornets have just two points from seven matches, drawing with Newcastle and Arsenal and losing all the rest.

They have conceded by far the most goals in the league, 20, although eight of those did come in one game at Manchester City.

There certainly has not been the new manager bounce under Quique Sánchez Flores they were hoping for and many are fearing for Watford.

This is because, going back to last season, they have won only six of their last 28 Premier League games, amassing 0.89 points per game in that time.

Three of the teams they beat in this period are now in the Championship which could be where Watford are heading.

Their next match after this one is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium so this winless start could yet go one.

Thus, it is vital the Vicarage Road faithful are celebrating their first home league win of the campaign.

Can Sheffield United win away?

Dean Henderson

As for Sheffield United, despite being the newly-promoted side everyone expected to go straight back down, they’ve taken to life in the Premier League like a duck to water.

Last weekend, they hosted European Champions Liverpool and went toe to toe with the run-away league leaders.

But, in the 70th minute, Dean Henderson spilt a shot into his own goal and Liverpool left with a 1-0 win.

A horror moment for the on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper.

Despite that, Chris Wilder will be happy with the start his side have made overall.

They beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in their first home match of the season and won 2-0 at Everton in their most recent game on the road.

Throw into that a come from 1-0 behind 1-1 draw at Bournemouth and a come from 2-0 down 2-2 draw at Chelsea and the Blades have eight points on the board and are 12th.

Can they continue this positive start with a third successive Premier League win over Watford, with the most recent of those coming in April 2007?

Quique Sánchez Flores is still searching for the recipe for success.

Ben Foster is firmly his number one goalkeeper despite the fact he’s let in the most goals in the league this season (20) and is yet to keep a clean sheet.

In defence, Daryl Janmaat could drop out after his own goal last weekend with Kiko Femenía coming in.

Craig Cathcart is also likely to come out the team with Christian Kabasele replacing him and partnering Craig Dawson.

José Cholevas is one yellow card away from suspension.

In midfield, Tom Cleverley will continue alongside Abdoulaye Doucouré and Étienne Capoue in a 4-3-3.

Further forward, they do have options out-wide.

Gerard Deulofeu has had the most shots of any player in the Premier League this season without scoring (19).

In fact, the 23 players who’ve had 16 shots or more have all netted at least once apart from the Spaniard.

Despite this, he’s likely to keep his place as will club-record signing Ismaïla Sarr on the other side.

Roberto Pereyra, Domingos Quina and Will Hughes will be on the bench.

Their poor start to the season has to be considered with the caveat that captain Troy Deeney has not played since the second game of the season after knee surgery.

Danny Welbeck will continue to try and fill his void, looking for his first Premier League goal since August 25, 2018.

Can Watford end their wait for a Premier League win?

Sheffield United meanwhile have a very settled side.

Despite his clanger last weekend, Dean Henderson will keep his place in goal.

Ahead of him, the same back three has started every game so far.

Jack O’Connell and John Egan are the famous overlapping centre-backs with Chris Basham keeping it all together in the middle.

Those four have all played over 600 minutes in the league this season, as have left wing-back Enda Stevens and John Lundstram.

The latter will be jointed in midfield by John Fleck who’s recent performances saw him called up by Scotland last week.

The majority of the team virtually picks it’s self but the two centre-forward positions are up for grabs.

Oliver McBurnie and Callum Robinson are first choice just now but David McGoldrick, Leon Clarke and, back from suspension captain, Billy Sharp are all viable options.

Will this side leave Watford with a win?
