Watford vs Chelsea betting tips: Premier League match preview and predictions

Watford vs Chelsea prediction: Watford 1-2 Chelsea

Watford are going under the radar a bit right now.

The Hornets’ win on Saturday saw them rise up to seventh in the table.

Chelsea meanwhile suffered their first home defeat since April on Saturday and they really need to bounce back.

Watford won this fixture 4-1 last season so will they sting the Blues again?

Watford vs Chelsea: Who will win?

Watford are 18/5 to make it three victories in a row.

Chelsea are odds on at 7/10 to bounce back with a win.

A draw, which Javi Gracia would surely take, is 29/10.

Both teams to score, which has happened in 5 of their last 6 meetings is 4/6.

Over 2.5 goals is also 4/6.

Gerard Deulofeu scored in back to back Premier League games for the first time on Saturday. The Spaniard is 10/1 to score first and is 3/1 to score in 90 minutes.

Eden Hazard is set to lead the line once again for Chelsea. He’s 7/2 to break the deadlock and 6/5 to score anytime.

Both Hazard and Pedro to score is 9/2.

Watford vs Chelsea: Match preview

Watford are currently in the best of the rest position.

Through November and into December they suffered a 6-game winless run which saw them slide down to eleventh.

However, back to back wins over Cardiff City and a 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday has seen them climb up to seventh.

Javi Gracia will be delighted with the start they have made so far and, having already claimed the scalp of Tottenham this season, they’ll be confident of another famous night at Vicarage Road.

Will Chelsea bounce back from Leicester?

Chelsea cannot afford another slip up.

Maurizio Sarri’s side were beaten 1-0 at home by Leicester on Saturday; a result which sees them 11 points off the leaders.

That’s now their third defeat in six after previously losing at Wembley to Spurs and to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

They do have a favourable run of fixtures before they face Arsenal on 19 January but, as they’re currently level on points with the Gunners in fifth, they cannot afford anymore slip ups.

Will the Blues get back to winning ways?

One of the things Watford fans really like about Javi Gracia is that if someone plays well they will be rewarded with starts.

Hence, he’s expected to name an unchanged side from Saturday.

Ben Foster has played every minute so far this season, keeping 4 clean sheets.

Left-back José Cholevas has put in more crosses than anyone else in the Premier League (136) so could be a man for Chelsea to be wary of.

Centre-backs Craig Cathcart and Christian Kabasele have started 11 of Watford’s 18 Premier League games as a pairing.

Sebastian Prödl could well return to the bench after a spell out with a knee injury.

Kiko Femenía has displaced fellow Spaniard Marc Navarro at right-back.

Will Hughes’ hip injury has given summer signing from Östersunds Ken Sema the opportunity to stake a claim on the right hand side. Hughes is another player expected to return to the bench for this one.

Étienne Capoue returned from suspension on Saturday which saw Domingos Quina back on the bench.

Abdoulaye Doucouré has provided 5 assists so far; only 6 players have more.

Gerard Deulofeu has 2 goals in his last two games and is enjoying his new found role as a centre forward.

The highly rated Venezuelan striker Adalberto Peñaranda is still awaiting his Watford debut due to a foot injury but could return soon.

Chalobah & Cleverley are likely to start on the bench as they get back up-to speed following long-term injuries.

Can this side stun Chelsea?

Chelsea team news vs Watford

Despite defeat on Saturday, Maurizio Sarri is unlikely to make wholesale changes.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has kept 13 clean sheets in his 24 Chelsea appearances so far; an impressive tally.

He’s one of 5 Chelsea players to have played over 1,600 minutes in the league so far.

The other 4 are the back 4 of César Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Antonio Rüdiger and Marcos Alonso.

Some Chelsea fans are predicting that Alonso will be dropped for Emerson with the Spanish left back struggling for form (and luck – when hitting the post vs Leicester) in recent weeks.

Oddly, David Luiz has played more through balls than anybody else in the league (18) and Marcos Alonso has hit the woodwork more than anybody else (5) including late on against Leicester.

Jorginho went off for Cesc Fàbregas on Saturday but should be fit enough to start here.

N’Golo Kanté and Mateo Kovačić are likely to join him in midfield but Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley are both pushing for starts.

Eden Hazard, who’s amassed 8 goals and 9 assists this season, will lead the line with Olivier Giroud and Álvaro Morata left out once again.

The Spanish striker is likely to be available from the bench.

Does this Chelsea team have enough to leave Watford with three points?
