Watford vs Brighton betting tips: Premier League match preview & predictions

Watford vs Brighton 101 Great Goals prediction: Watford 2-1 Brighton

Despite showing many promising signs under Javi Gracia last season, Watford’s campaign ended on a real low.

The Hornets suffered a 6-0 defeat in the FA Cup final to Manchester City. This came after losing three of their final six league games to drop out the top half.

But with Watford having kept their star men, they will be hoping to start the season positively on Saturday.

Brighton shocked the Premier League last season by avoiding relegation but then sacking Chris Hughton.

Graham Potter is now the man in charge, in an ambitious bid to start playing more attractive football.

Potter appears to be an exciting British manager but the appointment comes as a risk and all eyes will be on how they start life under the former Swansea City boss.

Premier League preview: Watford vs Brighton

Javi Gracia’s side showed plenty of promise last season, only for a late dip in form to cost them a top-half finish.

The Spanish manager will hope this term his side can push into the top ten and use their FA Cup run to inspire them to a more consistent league campaign.

The Hornets managed to keep hold of their star performers and completed the impressive addition of Danny Welbeck.

Watford have meanwhile enjoyed a very successful pre-season claiming wins over Bayer Leverkusen, Real Sociedad and QPR.

They also slipped to an unfortunate 2-1 defeat to Champions League semi-finalists Ajax after conceding an 89th-minute goal.

Will Brighton’s Potter risk pay off?

Chris Hughton was a hugely popular figure at the Amex securing promotion to the top flight and then keeping them there.

However, for the club, that wasn’t enough and Hughton was sacked, with Potter coming in to replace him.

Potter arrives off the back of a solid spell with Swansea and having also impressed with Swedish side Ostersunds FK.

His sides have typically played a more attractive and ambitious style of football than his predecessor Hughton, something Albion were looking for.

But, the appointment will certainly come as a major risk, with Potter untested at this level and Brighton’s position in the Premier League over the last two seasons.

The Seagulls produced a shock win over Valencia CF during pre-season in a big confidence booster ahead of Saturday.
