Watford boost: Jose Holebas red card overturned ahead of FA Cup final

Watford have this evening confirmed that the club’s wrongful dismissal claim regarding the red card picked up by Jose Holebas yesterday afternoon has been upheld by the FA.

Watford 1-4 West Ham

Javi Gracia’s men welcomed West Ham to Vicarage Road, as part of the final round of 2018/19 Premier League fixtures.

The Hornets headed into proceedings on a disappointing run of form of late, having picked up just a solitary win across their last 5 league outings.

And, when the 90 minutes were said and done, the latest underwhelming showing on Watford’s part eventually saw the hosts downed by 4 goals to 1.

Mark Noble (2), Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic were all on target for West Ham, with Gerard Deulofeu’s solitary strike shortly after the interval having eventually proved scant consolation for Gracia’s side.

Holebas blow

And an altogether-abysmal day’s work for Watford was also compounded by a red card picked up by Jose Holebas.

Greek stopper Holebas was given his marching orders with 48 minutes on the clock, after Chris Kavanagh adjudged him to have pulled back Michail Antonio as the West Ham attacker burst through on goal.

Speaking in the aftermath of his side’s heavy defeat, though, Watford boss Javi Gracia confirmed ‘for sure’ that the club would appeal the decision, with Holebas having been set to be suspended for his side’s FA Cup final meeting with Manchester City this coming weekend.

And, as has since been made official this evening, the Hornets’ appeal has proven successful:

As such, Holebas will be available to feature in Watford’s final outing of the season versus Man City:
