The Hornets travelled to Goodison Park for the last of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

The visitors came into proceedings on the back of 4 losses from their last 5 in the league, the latest of which saw Watford put to the sword by champions Manchester City at Vicarage Road.

Everton, meanwhile, had seen their excellent recent form somewhat desert them over the last couple of weeks, with the Toffees having followed a heartbreaking last-minute Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool with a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle last time out.

However, it didn’t take Marco Silva’s men long to take the lead this evening, with an entertaining opening quarter of an hour having eventually culminated in Richarlison opening the game’s scoring with 15 minutes on the clock.

The goal, when it came, was the product of a flowing team move from the home side, which saw Andre Gomes’ burst and pull-back from inside the Watford box expertly slotted home by Richarlison from 8 yards out.

However, upon viewing replays, it quickly became clear that the Toffees’ opener should have been ruled out.

As Gomes darted into the visitors’ penalty area, Theo Walcott, who was standing in a blatantly-offside position, made contact with the ball.

Though the English attacker’s contribution did not change much regarding the direction of the ball or the eventual outcome of the move, his presence in an offside position should nevertheless have seen the goal disallowed.

And Watford’s fans have certainly made this fact known across social media in the time since, as showcased below:
