Virgil van Dijk’s special treatment ahead of Liverpool v Southampton return

Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk is set to return to Southampton this weekend after his £75million move but will get some special treatment beforehand.

The Dutchman tried to leave the club last summer and even started to refuse to play for the Saints.

Though, the club stood firm and were looking to ensure they were not taken advantage of by another Liverpool move.

With Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and more heading to Anfield from St Mary’s, the club made sure they got the best deal possible.

They certainly did that when they got £75million for the player, making him the most expensive defender ever by a long way.

Though, ahead of his return, it looks like Jurgen Klopp will be giving him some special treatment to ensure his head is in the right place.

Wined and dined

With the player having only left Southampton, Klopp has explained that it won’t be a normal game for him.

The German then confirmed that he would have special talks with Van Dijk individually to ensure his head is right.

“Yes, for sure I’ll talk to Virgil about going back there. It won’t be a normal game,” he explained.

“It won’t be a friendly game, they fight for everything, we fight for everything,”

“It is obviously quite special, it was not on purpose. It just happened. I don’t know exactly but it probably will not be the most friendly.

“We are all human beings. It is nice you think he can handle it. We are all influenced by circumstances.

“It is a possibility the reaction is not that positive. That is how fans are they will want to try and do everything they can to help their team and disturb us. So they will whistle.”

Good for Arsenal: Liverpool drop interest in Thomas Lemar

One player who could have replaced Van Dijk as Liverpool’s top transfer is Thomas Lemar.

The Monaco star could cost his next club up to £90million.

Though, it has now been revealed that his next club will not be Liverpool.
