Vietto to Barca
Barcelona are close to signing a fourth player in this summer transfer window. Having already added Denis Suarez, Samuel Umtiti, and Lucas Digne, Luis Enrique now wants a striker. With Messi, Suarez and Neymar leading the forward line, it doesn’t have to be a top of the range addition. No offence, Luciano Vietto. The Argentine striker is clearly a very talented player.
Last season, however, was disastrous. Vietto made the switch from Villarreal to Atletico Madrid. The move was an apt reward for his fine performances for the Yellow Submarine. Yet it proved a move too soon.
Calderon of fire
He scored 20 goals in his first season in Europe. Let the good times roll, right? Not quite. He followed this up with only three goals in a tough debut season at the Calderon. This was despite having already worked with Diego Simeone in Argentina too. Strange.
AS report that Enrique sees Vietto as the kind of backup striker who could thrive in his system. The 22-year-old’s agents have already met with Barca sporting director Robert Fernandez. The only thing that is left to do is work out a deal with Atletico.
