Video: Raul Jimenez nets first Premier League goal for Wolves since horrific head injury

Southampton vs Wolves

Sunday’s early Premier League clash would see Southampton and Wolves face off at St Mary’s.

Both sides headed into the game in the bottom half of the Premier League table, with both also struggling for goals.

Wolves had picked up just one win in five before Sunday, losing their remaining four Premier League outings.

Southampton, meanwhile, kicked off against Bruno Lage’s side still searching for their first win of the PL campaign.

The Saints, though, had drawn four in five, with their confidence no doubt high heading into the match after holding Premier League champions, Manchester City, to a 0-0 draw in their previous fixture.

And, to their credit, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side did dominate the majority of the game on Sunday, in terms of both possession and goal attempts.

Raul Jimenez finds the net for first time since head injury

However, it would be the away outfit who eventually broke the deadlock.

Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa lofted the ball upfield to Raul Jimenez, who, after creating a decent angle, smashed an effort past Alex McCarthy.

The goal was of course a huge one for Wolves due to their poor start to the season, and struggles in front of goal.

But it was also a significant one for Jimenez himself. The Mexican suffered a horrific head injury back in November of 2020, which led to the striker missing the remainder of the season.

And though he has since returned to action this time around, and started all of Wolves’ previous five PL outings, Jimenez appeared to be lacking in confidence.

After netting vs Southampton, though, we could well see Wolves’ main man back to his scintillating best in the near future.
