Video: Liverpool star slated after Miss of the Season contender vs Wolves

Viewers of the showdown between Liverpool and Wolves have taken to social media in their droves on Saturday, to react to Diogo Jota’s early miss of the season contender.

Origi at the death

Jurgen Klopp’s men of course marked their return to action a short time ago.

On the back of a scintillating spell of recent form, which had seen them put four past all of Arsenal, Southampton and Everton, the Reds made the trip to Molineux, desperate to take advantage of table-topping Chelsea’s slip-up at West Ham earlier in the day.

And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Liverpool managed… just.

A hard-fought 90 minutes, during which Bruno Lage’s hosts again proved themselves a fine defensive unit, was ultimately decided deep into injury-time.

After Mo Salah did superbly to lay the ball off inside the area, substitute Divock Origi was on hand to slot home, sending Liverpool to the Premier League’s summit, and breaking Wolves hearts all in one fell swoop.

Jota targeted

Liverpool’s eventual victory, however, did not come without its scares along the way.

And, as alluded to above, it was one moment in particular, just shy of the hour mark, which has since resulted in an altogether understandable backlash online.

The situation in question saw Diogo Jota take advantage of a Jose Sa mistake, to surge free in the Wolves area.

The Portuguese, in turn, was left with just a pair of defenders to slot past, a task which, frankly, looked easier to succeed in than to fail.

Remarkably, however, Jota, with the goal at his mercy, went on to cannon an effort against the midriff of Conor Coady, so nearly costing Liverpool all three points in the process:

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of Liverpool’s in-form hitman being singled out for widespread criticism on the back of the action coming to a close in the West Midlands, with just some of the highlights from across Twitter showcased below:
