Video: Former Arsenal talent Greenwood comes back to haunt Gunners with fine goal for Leeds U23s

Footage of the latest goal netted by Leeds United U23 starlet Sam Greenwood has turned plenty of heads online on Friday evening.

Dean amongst the goals

The latest up-and-coming crop of talent in west Yorkshire are currently locked in action once more.

Mark Jackson’s U23 outfit have welcomed Arsenal to Elland Road, for a highly-anticipated Premier League 2 showdown.

Leeds headed into proceedings in search of a bounce-back result, having alarmingly not managed a single victory in any of the club’s last five outings across all competitions.

As things stand early in the 2nd-half of play, however, a return to winning ways is precisely what the Whites are headed towards.

After Sam Greenwood’s opener inside 20 minutes was swiftly cancelled out by Arsenal sensation Salah Oulad M’Hand, Leeds’ advantage was restored ten minutes before the interval.

Max Dean proved the man on target, finishing off a lightning counter attack after the visitors needlessly surrendered possession in the middle of the park:

Gunners regrets

As outlined above, however, it is not Leeds’ 2nd of the night, marking the difference between the sides at Elland Road as things stand, which has in fact stolen the headlines thus far.

Instead, this honour has been reserved for the man who opened the evening’s scoring – Sam Greenwood.

19-year-old attacker Greenwood represents one of the most highly-regarded young talents currently on the books in west Yorkshire.

The sky-high expectations surrounding the teen are made altogether understandable when taking a simple look at his statistics to this point in the campaign, with Greenwood, before tonight, having racked up four goals and three assists across just eight Premier League 2 outings.

What made his latest strike such a noteworthy one, however, is the fact that it came against the side whom the hitman was actually lining out for up until last summer.

Yes, after making his way through the ranks at Sunderland, Greenwood was snapped up by Arsenal in 2018, before eventually opting to depart north London for pastures new once more in 2020.

And this evening, the English U20 international provided his ex-employers with a firm reminder of what could have been, courtesy of a typically composed right-footed finish:

*Update* – Arsenal have since turned the clash on its head owing to a brace on the part of Folarin Balogun.
