Video: Emotional Solskjaer breaks down in tears as Man United’s management plans for Villarreal confirmed

Footage of now-former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer struggling to keep his emotions in check during an interview with the club has piqued widespread attentions across social media this evening.

Ole on his way

The name of Norwegian tactician Solskjaer has of course stolen the headlines across Europe over the last 24 hours.

This comes after the 48-year-old oversaw a frankly inexcusable performance and result in what ultimately proved to be his final outing on the bench at Manchester United on Saturday.

After slipping a full 12 points adrift of Premier League table-toppers Chelsea, the Red Devils made the trip to Vicarage Road, aware that nothing but a victory would suffice up against struggling Watford.

When all was said and done, however, Solskjaer and co. were once again put to the sword in alarming fashion, by a hefty four goals to one.

In turn, it did not come as a huge surprise when word was forthcoming earlier today that the board at Old Trafford had finally sprung into action, sending Solskjaer on his way with immediate effect:

‘Becoming emotional…’

As alluded to above, however, whilst the Norwegian’s name will soon fade into the background when it comes to ongoings on the red half of Manchester, on Sunday evening, his now-former employers provided Solskjaer with one final opportunity to make his feelings towards the club known.

In a somewhat unusual move, likely utilised to highlight the fact that the two parties have gone their separate ways on positive terms, United have posted a farewell interview with Solskjaer across their social media platforms.

And one passage of the discussion in particular has since gone altogether viral.

This comes with Solskjaer have tried and failed to hold back the tears in wishing good luck to former right-hand man Michael Carrick, and the Red Devils’ stars:

‘Michael [Carrick], I have the utmost respect [for], I love Michael to bits. I’m becoming emotional now because he’s top. They’ll be fine. I’ll watch them and support them.’

During the same segment, the Norwegian tactician also confirmed that Carrick will take his place on the United bench for the club’s midweek Champions League showdown with Villarreal:
