Video: Classy Jack Grealish puts Euro heartbreak aside to make young England fan’s night at Wembley

A heartwarming piece of footage centering on England and Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has gone viral for all the right reasons on Monday.

Azzurri reign supreme

Grealish and co. were of course back in action a little less than 24 hours ago.

The Three Lions welcomed Italy to Wembley, for a highly-anticipated showdown in the finale of Euro 2020.

England headed into proceedings aiming to bring an end to a half-century’s worth of pain and anguish, having not secured a single piece of major silverware since the World Cup in 1966.

When all was said and done in London, however, the heartache of a nation only rolled on…

The hosts actually took the lead in the clash, when, inside the opening 120 seconds, Kieran Trippier’s lofted ball to the back post was lashed home by Luke Shaw:

The Three Lions, however, opted to rest on their laurels, and were soon made to pay for their negativity.

After a whipped corner from the right eventually resulted in Jordan Pickford miraculously keeping out Marco Verratti’s stooping header, Leonardo Bonucci was on hand to slot home on the rebound:

This proved all she wrote when it came to the evening’s scoring not only over the course of the 90 minutes, but extra time too, meaning the destination of the European Championships would ultimately be decided from 12 yards.

And, after Italy’s two missed spot-kicks were followed by three on the part of England’s young guns, it was the Azzurri, and iconic captain Giorgio Chiellini, who secured for themselves the title of the continent’s finest.

Grealish’s touch of class

Their latest high-profile disappointment, in turn, has understandably since left something of a dark cloud over English football, with this summer, across the nation, having legitimately been viewed as the one in which football was set to ‘come home’.

For those of a Three Lions persuasion who find themselves somewhat down in the dumps today, though, one piece of footage doing the rounds on social media should, for a brief moment at least, provide a timely reminder of all that is so right with Gareth Southgate’s squad.

The clip in question focuses on Jack Grealish, who, despite the heartbreak of missing out on European glory on Sunday, put his emotions to one side, to make the night of a young fan.

Following the full-time whistle at Wembley, the Aston Villa star made his way into the crowd, to hand his boots to the supporter in question, interacting with his family, before stepping in for a photo.

A touch of class amid a moment of genuine anguish… A real testament to Grealish’s character.
