Video: Arturo Vidal loses it with English referee Anthony Taylor, picking up two yellow cards within seconds

Vidal chaos

Inter Milan’s vital game against Real Madrid was marred by a moment of madness involving Arturo Vidal and Anthony Taylor. The Chilean was sent off following back-to-back yellow cards in the space of seconds.

Vidal charged into the Madrid box with Luka Modric challenging the midfielder, before the incoming Raphael Varane managed to tap the ball away from the 33-year-old.

Incensed, Vidal was sure he had earned his side a penalty, which would have handed Antonio Conte’s side the chance to equalise after an Eden Hazard penalty had given the Spanish favourites the lead.

Vidal strode up to English referee Anthony Taylor, who had of course shown Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe a straight red card just days earlier. Vidal’s forceful remonstrations quickly led to a yellow card being brandished for descent. However, the Chilean, clearly not thinking straight, subsequently barged into the official, almost coming chin to chin with Taylor. In turn, the latter was left with no choice but to send Vidal off.

Vidal’s protests unsurprisingly continued, before he eventually accepted his fate and departed the pitch. This was made all the worse by the fact that VAR found no need for Taylor to consult the video feed to check the aforementioned penalty call.

Szoboszlai misses sitter

Dominik Szoboszlai has become known for scoring memorable rockets from long-range. However, the Hungarian was embarrassed after fluffing a one-on-one chance with Manuel Neuer this evening.

Played into open space, Szoboszlai approached the Bayern goal, but fired high over the bar, left with his head in his hands.

Szoboszlai has been heavily linked with a possible move to Arsenal in the January transfer window. 101 have profiled the 20-year-old, breaking down his key attributes in addition to getting expert insight on the midfielder. If you would like to learn more about Szoboszlai, then click here.
