Victor Lindelof talks about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s World Cup hopes

Victor Lindelof v Newcastle

In the end, Swedish centre-half Victor Lindelof had a decent enough game against Newcastle.

However, many will no doubt be unable to forget how Lindelof contributed to the Magpies taking the lead at Old Trafford.

The Scandinavian defender slipped at the wrong time, before Dwight Gayle pounced to fire Newcastle ahead.

After the match, Lindelof spoke to Swedish TV about the Newcastle win.

During the interview, Lindelof was asked whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be in Sweden’s World Cup squad next summer.

Zlatan has retired from international football. However, as soon as Sweden knocked Italy out in the playoffs, speculation began as to whether Ibra could reverse that decision.

Lindelof, facing a tricky question about his team mate both at Old Trafford in Sweden, gave the following diplomatic answer: “It’s up to Zlatan if he wants to go.”

That’s not exactly true, however. The decision is really up to Swedish manager Janne Andersson, who reacted baldy to being asked about Zlatan after the Azzurri win.

What seems clear is that the Ibrahimovic, World Cup question will dominate the Swedish football news until next summer.
