Usain Bolt scores brace in first Central Coast Mariners start
Lightning fast start
Former sprinter Usain Bolt scored a brace for Australian side Central Coast Mariners on his first start for the club on Friday.
While Bolt is known around the world as one of the fastest men to ever grace athletics, he’s starting to make a name for himself in football.
The Jamaican has a background in football and has recently been back in the press as he tries to swap career paths.
The forward even spent time at Borussia Dortmund as he had a trial with the Bundesliga side.
Speaking after that trial, Bolt claimed that he gave it his all.
“I wanted to play my best,” he explained.
“I wanted to move and give the guys options and I tried my best. I’m really trying to make it professionally, so I have to play at a high level.”
While his trial didn’t win him a contract at Dortmund, it did put him on the radar of other clubs.
Is Bolt’s career taking off?
Back in August, it was announced by A-League side Central Coast Mariners that they had taken Bolt on an ‘“Indefinite trial”.
Now, it looks as though he is starting to impress after he scored a brace on Friday.
His first goal came after a ball over the top of the defence, Bolt’s left-footed shot beating the keeper at his near post.

His second was a lot more about luck than ability.
A goalkeeper and defender mixup meant that Bolt had to just run the ball into the net to secure his brace.

Speaking after the game, he reportedly said:
“Dreams become reality through hard work.
“My first start and scoring two goals, it’s a good feeling.
“I’m happy I could come here and show the world I’m improving. I’m keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team.”
