Updates on Marco Verratti to Bayern & Xabi Alonso’s retirement plans

Could this be good news for Chelsea?

A couple of stories have broken out of Bayern Munich this week.

Top billing was the announcement, broken by Bild, that midfielder Xabi Alonso has decided to end his football career at the end of the season.

Now 35, Alonso has won everything in the game – World Cup, 2 European Championships, 2 Champions League, plus the Bundesliga and domestic cups – and he’s now ready to retire.

At the same time, he rumour mill were peddling claims that Bayern could replace Alonso with PSG midfielder Marco Verratti.

Verratti has also been linked to Chelsea in recent times.

Updates from Carlo Ancelotti

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti today faced the press in Germany, and he was asked about the Xabi Alonso and Marco Verratti stories.

Ancelotti announced his plans to keep Alonso at the club, while he also tried to take the Verratti rumours off the table.

Could that mean Chelsea could nab Verratti instead?
