Unsung hero hailed as mastermind behind Arsenal’s opener vs Crystal Palace

The Gunners opened their account for the campaign courtesy of a well-worked set piece


A name which will no doubt be unfamiliar to many an Arsenal fan has taken its place centre stage online during the club’s meeting with Crystal Palace on Friday night.

Mikel Arteta’s troops, of course, are currently locked in action.

In the Premier League curtain-raiser, the Gunners have made the trip to Selhurst Park, for a showdown with capital rivals Crystal Palace.

Arsenal headed into proceedings eyeing an altogether more positive start to the campaign this time round, after famously slipping to defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Brentford in 2021/22.

And such efforts got off to the perfect start on Friday, when the evening’s visitors opened the scoring in south London with just 20 minutes on the clock.

Gabriel Martinelli proved the man on target, latching onto summer arrival Oleksandr Zinchenko’s header across the face of goal to nod home from close range:

It is not goalscorer Martinelli, nor debut assist provider Zinchenko, though, who has since taken centre stage on social media in the aftermath of Arsenal’s opener.

Instead, this honour has been reserved for a member of Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff.

The individual in question? Nicolas Jover.
