Unai Emery responds to suggestions he wants Mesut Ozil to leave Arsenal

Does Emery really want to get rid of Ozil?

Unai Emery has responded to suggestions this week that he wants to sell Arsenal star Mesut Ozil and has told the player he should leave the club.

The German playmaker hasn’t had the greatest of times since the summer.

Ozil suffered embarrassment with the German national team as they were knocked out of the World Cup in Russia at the group stage.

Ozil then retired from international duty due to the abuse he received from his own fans and treatment by the German DFB.

While you would have expected Mesut to put all that behind him when he returned to Arsenal, his problems have since only worsened.

Ozil has suffered several injury problems this season and has also fallen out of favour.

The biggest example was when he was left out of the squad to face Tottenham in the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

It was suggested on Thursday that Emery had told Ozil to leave the club.

Those suggestions came from the ever-reliable David Ornstein, also claiming the Arsenal hierarchy would like to move him on.

Now, Emery has responded to those claims.

“I am thinking about how he can help us”

Emery has explained that he’s not thinking about an Ozil exit despite the reports.

He also suggested that Ozil could be in the squad for the game against Chelsea this weekend.

“I am not thinking about that. I am thinking about how he can help us,” explained Emery, as quoted by the Mirror.

“He has helped us sometimes this year with good performances and others not good. After these two weeks working, maybe he can be okay for us.

“He has injuries, where sometimes he is okay, sometimes not okay. I want every player to be okay for every match and he is the same.

“He didn’t play the last game but this Saturday he could possibly be with us. Now he is training consistently.

“I want every player to give consistency. This is not always easy. What is most important is how he can help us.”
